How to Choose Between T8 Tubes and 75W LED Grow Bars

A propagation-rack checklist for choosing between 18W T8 grow tubes and higher-output 75W or 100W LED grow bars using verified product rows.

A propagation rack can use slim T8 tubes, higher-output LED bars, or a mix of both, but the buying decision should not start with fixture shape alone. Start with the tray area, shelf clearance, target light level, control plan, and verified product rows. That keeps the quotation tied to evidence instead of a generic "seedling light" label.

1. Separate fixture PPF from rack PPFD

The current Number PGF18 T8 grow tube product record lists 18W power consumption, 40 umol/s PPF, and 2.2 umol/J efficacy. The current Number LEDtb F75 grow bar record lists 75W/100W in the top-level power field and 188/250 umol/s in the top-level PPF field; its specification table currently shows a 75W row with 188 umol/s PPF and 2.5 umol/J efficacy. Use those as fixture-output rows only. Shelf-level PPFD still depends on fixture count, spacing, mounting height, reflector or wall effects, and measurement position.

2. Choose the fixture format by shelf constraint

A T8 tube is usually easier to place where the rack needs many low-profile rows, low individual fixture weight, or a familiar tube-style service plan. A higher-output bar is the stronger candidate when each shelf needs fewer fixtures, higher photon output per row, or a more rigid bar form factor. Treat this as a layout question: write the shelf width, tray depth, allowable mounting height, row spacing, and number of fixture rows before choosing the model.

3. Lock the electrical and control rows

Both current product records list 0-10V dimming in the specification table. The PGF18 table lists 18W +/-5% power consumption, -20°C to 35°C operating temperature, aluminum-housing passive cooling, 0.35 kg weight, and a five-year standard warranty. The F75 table lists 75W +/-5% power consumption, -20°C to 35°C operating temperature, passive thermal management, 3.3 kg weight, and a three-year standard warranty. Put voltage, dimming input, controller grouping, cable exit, and allowed connector type in the approval sheet before releasing the sample or purchase order.

4. Match customization scope to the model

The current PGF18 record lists spectrum, power, logo, cable length, and dimming as customizable options. The current F75 record lists spectrum and power as customizable options. That difference matters for OEM or private-label work: if the rack program needs branded labeling, special cable lengths, or dimming changes, assign each request to a model-specific evidence row instead of assuming every customization applies to every fixture.

5. Use a two-model approval table

For each shelf type, create one row for the 18W T8 option and one row for the 75W or 100W bar option. Include fixture name, SKU or sample code, wattage, PPF, efficacy, dimming method, operating temperature, weight, customizable items, image or drawing reference, and the person approving the layout. If the rack only needs a T8-style decision, use the separate T8 nursery-rack specification checklist as the next step.

The buying rule

Choose the PGF18 row when the project favors a lightweight 18W T8 format and model-specific customization options such as cable length or logo. Choose the F75 row when the project needs a higher-output bar row and can accommodate the heavier fixture. In both cases, approve the final rack by measured or modeled PPFD and DLI, not by fixture shape alone.
